WORD-AFLAME LEADERSHIP COLLEGE My Sons and Pornography

My Sons and Pornography

By Gideon in Blog, Life Sharing on January 28, 2017

I re-publish this article here after it was originally published by churchleader, to allow wider circulation with the hope that it will bring deliverance and healing to the captivated soul!

A Letter to My Sons About Pornography

“Pornography misshapes your vision of girls, whether you realize it or not.”

My Dear Sons,

The eye beholds much good and evil in this life. Beholding leads to becoming. What we continually put before our eyes and minds will shape and determine who we are. Images either tell the truth or lie, but they all speak. On top of this, our natural eyes are lustful things not easily satisfied (1 John 2:16). One lustful look can change us. One look can feed the monster within so that it rears up its ugly head looking for more.
WORD-AFLAME LEADERSHIP COLLEGE My Sons and Pornography
“Feed me,” he says. His appetite is fierce and unsatisfied. One look leads to another, and then to many more.

This is the kingdom of sexual lust—a world of soft porn and free porn—and secrets contained in cleared web browsers. What you behold, boys, you become. If you steep your tea too long, it becomes bitter. Likewise, if you sit and soak in pornographic fantasies, your life will have a bitter taste. At first the flavors might taste sweet, but bitterness will always be the end result. And the bitterness will be shared someday in your interactions with girls: how you think about girls, talk to girls, treat girls and pursue girls.

A WICKED EDUCATION IN SEX

Pornography misshapes your vision of girls, whether you realize it or not. And one day, pornography might affect your future wife. The women gleaming on the computer screen may not directly feel the effects of your lust, but they will indirectly, as you fuel the industry that enslaves and trafficks them.

But the images cannot feel the painful grief and loss a wife feels when her husband’s hidden sins are inevitably revealed. I plead with you to not let the tea steep that long; to not let one look turn into thousands of looks over the course of years. If this happens, you will taste the bitterness, my sons, and you will want to spit it out.

Lust distorts the glory of both biblical manhood and womanhood; it goes against the divine mandate in the garden of Eden. Men are to care for women—and provide and protect with humble strength—not exploit and dominate. Women are strong, capable and your equal, not objects to be used and discarded.

But the porn industry diminishes both men and women, and reduces them all the way down to simple actors of animal lust for pixilation, instead of celebrating them as complex and glorious image-bearers of their Creator. This is the consumer society we live in, devaluing human beings as they’re offered up for consumption. The porn industry is lining online aisles with a sexual zoo for viewing pleasure.

A FAR BETTER PLACE TO LOOK

You, my sons, are called by God to reject sexual consumerism. You are called by Christ to seek pleasure in him, and to pour out your life in selfless giving to God and to others.
WORD-AFLAME LEADERSHIP COLLEGE My Sons and Pornography
Jesus Christ is the opposite of pornography. Jesus lived a life of denial and sacrifice. No lust, ever. Sex for him was unnecessary, even as he imaged God perfectly. He became the least and the last in order to put us first. Pornography is self-exalting. It is putting your pleasures and desires first, before the glory of God and the good of others. Since Christ is the opposite of pornography, then look to Christ in your fight against sexual temptation and sin. When you behold Christ you will become like him.

“For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ” (2 Corinthians 4:6).

Look upon his face, and pornography will begin to look strangely dim.

A SAFE PLACE AFTER SEXUAL FAILURE

When Moses asked God to show him his glory (Exodus 33:18), the glory of God in the gospel of Jesus Christ had not yet been fully revealed. How much more glorious is it for you, when you ask God to show you his glory now after the cross and resurrection? You only have to read about this glory in God’s word, and meditate upon it in your hearts and minds. You will be changed. “How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word” (Psalm 119:9).

And if you are drawn into the illicit pleasures of the Internet, remember the words of Robert Murray McCheyne, “For every look at yourself, take 10 looks at Christ.” One look at your sinful self calls for 10 looks at Christ nailed to a cross for you. Being in Christ is the only qualification we need to behold his glory, even after we have sinned. He alone is the cure and the prevention for your sin.

BE THOU MY VISION

Remember what Jesus said in Matthew 6:22:

“The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light.”

A healthy eye connotes clear vision, and you will have a spiritually healthy way of looking at things (like the gift of sex). But your eyes can lie to you if you only see with them and not through them. The eye can distort your heart and mind if you are using it only to see what is directly in front of you. When your eyes are filled with the glory of God in Christ, you will clearly see through the distorting lies of lust.

Before Daddy and I had you boys, we planned our wedding. I wanted to play my favorite hymn, “Be Thou My Vision,” before I walked down the aisle. My prayer was that Christ would always be my vision in marriage, but now that prayer surrounds you both as well. I pray Christ would be your vision in all of life—that your eyes would be filled with glory leading to truth and life and joy. What you put before your eyes will change you. May it fill you with light, and not darkness.

Love,
Your Mama.

WORD-AFLAME LEADERSHIP COLLEGE 7 Questions for Young Pastors!

7 Questions for Young Pastors!

By Gideon in Blog, Spirituality on January 16, 2017

To all the young and upcoming Pastors, I have come up with this blog because of the current rate at which the Church is growing and most importantly the readiness for the coming of the lord.
Secondly, my well over two decades of pastoral and leadership experience prompted me to help in re-positioning ministers in all totality for the ministry and effectiveness.
Therefore, the questions I raised here will always be begging for faithful answers if you must choose the path of success in this high calling of God.

1. What are your Motives before you enter into the ministry?
If your motive is wrong, that is, either out- rightly or stylishly opposite to God’s kingdom vision of salvation of mankind, then you are already in a journey of fruitless and regression.
There is no way to think or move wrongly and end rightly. I wish to sound a note of warning here, that God does or will not applaud your fame and success in the ministry, but only want to celebrate your faithfulness and righteous life.
Getting your motives wright will afford you of getting the ministry in right direction.

2. Who is your Mentor? Carefully and spiritually choosing your mentor in the ministry is either to assassinate or robustly affect your ministerial destiny. Have you ever heard of this “like Father like son” so what type of mentor do you have, what his or her secret life, is it full and controlled by materialism or humility and genuine passion for gospel? You will need to always run an acid test on your mentor as to life style and frequent message, are they centered on holiness and coming of the lord…..I will also implore you to use God’s wisdom to settle the rest, because sometimes God will not even talk to you about your mentor at all which will eventually determine your entire life and ministry.

3. Who are your Friends in the ministry?
Choosing friends that are also ministers at the beginning, middle or towards your old age is purely your own decision and also at your own risk. Because it can affect you and your ministry positively or negatively, although, you can’t be an island, you will need to relate and friendship with fellow ministers, but the quality, bible standard and godly type is strictly your choice.
Be therefore quick to learn the lesson of life from relationship of king Jehoshaphat with Ahab.

4. What are your Favorite Books?
Reading books is like furthering or advancing your academic with different types of lecturers. Therefore the type of book you devoted your life for may determine your type of passion in the ministry.
If God truly called you, you will have your own blue print and not to be easily manipulated by every book you stumble upon.
God wants us to be different to others in carrying out his order without compromise.
Be strong enough to accept or reject any book regardless of author considering your faithfulness and godly life as more paramount.

5. Is your Marriage healthy for the ministry?
This is where pretense is useless and don’t ever try one. If your marriage is not good, there is no adjustment that will work in the ministry. Your success in the ministry will start with the success in your marriage. People want to see the evidence of your calling from your marriage first before the pew.
WORD-AFLAME LEADERSHIP COLLEGE 7 Questions for Young Pastors!
6. How Rooted are you in the word?
Believe it or not, you will only give what you have. The measure of the word of God combined with Spirit filling will go a long way in your daily overcoming life with sin, Satan and flesh.
Your richness in the word of God and Spirit will produce Bible pattern Church and rapturable saint.Read Ephesians 3:17-19; Colossians 2:7.

7. Is your passion’s wright?
Every failure is a product of wrong passion and also a successful adventure, business is linked to a positive and wright passion, this is also applicable to ministerial calling and the type has to be godly with heavenly pursuit. The people around you must grow from your passion for righteousness, faithfulness and sacrificial life as you relentlessly winning souls and edify the Church for Jesus at rapture.
The passion to satisfy God daily in your both christian and ministerial life is non negotiable if you must end your journey well with God.
You are blessed in Jesus name.- Dr G O Oyedepo

WORD-AFLAME LEADERSHIP COLLEGE UNUSUAL ENDORSEMENT

UNUSUAL ENDORSEMENT

By Gideon in Blog, Faith and Work on December 1, 2016

“Verily I say unto you, Where so ever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her. Mark 14:3-9″.
Hmm……Are you profitable for Jesus and the gospel ministry, what will be your legacy in the church after you have gone, are you sure heaven will be happy about you……..think about this……there will be no hiding place when you suddenly close your eyes here, you will be heading straight to heaven or hell…….eternity is certain!
And then reward in heaven or you want to meet your lord empty handed !
Let us quickly take note of this: Jacob wasn’t a born-again of that time, he was a confirmed supplanter, that ran away from his brother Esau he has defrauded, so he can not possibly be a regenerated soul but a complete sinner. But after his encounter on his way at Bethel in the dream (Gen 28:10-22), he started to have conviction in him more about God especially when God presented and reaffirmed to him the covenant of his grand father- Abraham and also of his father- Isaac.
After the revelation, he has strong urge to anoint the place with oil and with a promise.
Here God endorsed Jacob miraculously and the rest story at Laban house was a great harvest for him and never stopped until he became Israel- the mind and purpose of God.
God endorses people with act of unusual faith shown towards him, such life suddenly becomes an epitome of glory and it doesn’t matter what people are calling them, what matter is God’s endorsement!
Check this….Obededom wasn’t an Isrealite, but a Philistine from Gath that had lived to understand fully the worship of the God of Israel and also the attitude of this living God (2 sam 6:10-12). He gladly accepted the care of the ark of God in his house -the rest was a great testimony of blessing just under three month.
This is exactly where we are going- the woman bought an expensive alabaster oil, break it and pour it on Jesus head-the rest was an unusual endorsement- Jesus with full authority announced in broad term and said,”Where so ever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her” this simply means that this woman will never be forgotten in the history of the gospel with great fame, and that finally became her honor.
When you take an unusual step of faith with Jesus- the rest is an endorsement from heaven-you will never be forgotten, but have your name printed in gold at the altar of gospel of Christ.
” For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labor of love, which ye have showed towards his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints and do minister Heb 6:10″
Don’t forget this, unusual act of faith will provoke unusual endorsement for unimaginable glory. God bless you!-Dr G O Oyedepo.

WORD-AFLAME LEADERSHIP COLLEGE UNCONTROLED EXPECTATION

UNCONTROLED EXPECTATION

By Gideon in Blog, MARRIAGE on November 21, 2016

Marriage is all beautiful and ought to be glorious, but can also be very though and turn sour if the couple (or one) is possessed with high expectation in all things, such will be driven with the spirit of assumption in almost all the time and the other (partner) will be suffering silently as if he or she is born with hidden or un-surfaced disability and the victim can also be possibly view as not knowledgeable, unintelligent, and un-spiritual enough.
Within a very short time, frustration will un-noticeably set in and gradual loss of relationship appetite will be the result.
So be careful to understand that all human are born with either visible or non visible weakness and christians are no exception.
So with the Spirit of God upon you, combined with agape love, always ready to impact on your spouse and not expecting so much from him or her! Only appreciate what he or she has grace to do in your relationship, accepting that it may be his/her ability from God for now and soon you continue to witness a gradual turn around in your life and marriage.
Paul Apostle said “But godliness with contentment is great gain. 1 Timothy 6:6”
Don’t ever forget to always appreciate God for giving him or her to you for a beautiful marital life and God bless you.

WORD-AFLAME LEADERSHIP COLLEGE Becoming a More Productive Pastor

Becoming a More Productive Pastor

By Gideon in Blog, Faith and Work on November 7, 2016

Ten Tips to Becoming a More Productive Pastor

The work of pastoral ministry is a joy, but it’s also demanding. Every pastor is on call 24/7. Expectations of members are high and sometimes unreasonable.

Pastors are thus expected to “run the race” constantly. But how can a pastor keep the pace in this marathon of ministry without burning out? How can a pastor remain productive with such demands? Allow me to offer ten tips to becoming a more productive pastor.

1. Be spiritually disciplined.

Pastor, you cannot lead God’s people spiritually if you are spiritually depleted. Find a time to pray and to read God’s Word every day. Don’t let it become an afterthought. Pick a time of day and stick with it. For some of you, it’s first thing in the morning. For me, it’s the quiet of late evening.

2. Pray for the day ahead.
There is obvious overlap between the first two, but I want to remind pastors to pray about three specific things before you begin the day. First, pray for God’s wisdom for all the conversations and situations you will be facing. Second, pray for His grace. You will hear from critics and high maintenance people. It’s not always easy to be gracious to some. Third, pray for opportunities to show and share the love of Christ during the day. I am always amazed how He answers that prayer in my life.

3. Be physically disciplined.
As you set aside a time of the day for spiritual discipline, also set aside a time of day for physical discipline. You may think you don’t have time to do both. You can’t afford to neglect either. I love the advantages of technology. My iPad, headphones, and treadmill are daily companions.

4. Make appointments for sermon preparation.
How long does it take you to prepare a sermon? Take that time plus one hour and put it on your calendar each week. Don’t try to do sermon preparation in the margins of your life; it’s too important to minimize. You may not always get to keep those appointments, but you have a better chance if they are on your calendar.

5. Set a priority.
Determine one to three priorities you will accomplish for the day. If possible, don’t take on any other tasks until those items are completed.

6. Get sufficient sleep.

Hard workers often like to brag about how much they work and how little sleep they get. If their lack of sleep is a reality, they are becoming less productive and unhealthier. Sleep is not a luxury; it is a gift of rest and recovery given directly from God.

7. Make appointments on your calendar for strategic vision.
Perhaps once a month set aside a day to get away by yourself, pray, seek God’s face, and dream about the future of the church. Take notes that day, either electronically or on paper.
>>>>>>>Also Read This: Grace For Finishing Strong<<<<<
8. Laugh and have fun.
Sometimes I have a bad attitude about my work and ministry and say I have to do something. My attitude should be that, by the grace of God, I get to do His work. We who are in vocational ministry often need to lighten up and laugh more. Not all ministry could be described as “fun,” but much of it is if we have the right attitude.

9. Have a right attitude.
Speaking of attitudes, productive pastors rejoice more. They learn greater gratitude. They see setbacks as temporary and opportunities as never ending. They see themselves as co-laborers with God Himself.

10. Work hard; rest intentionally.
There are a few pastors who need to improve their work ethics. Are you truly laboring for God? But there are more pastors who need to rest and relax more. You are not omnipresent, omniscient, and omnipotent. -by  Dr. Thom Rainer, President & CEO of LifeWay Christian Resources.

WORD-AFLAME LEADERSHIP COLLEGE COME OH LORD!

COME OH LORD!

By Gideon in Blog, MARRIAGE on November 1, 2016

“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh.
For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high things that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. 2 Corinth 10:3-5”

This is end-time, Satan is fighting rigorously to completely destroy the Christian homes-values and honor with his secret weapons of lukewarmness in faith, sickness, poverty, loss, sudden hatred, death and the worst of it all is divorce!
Oh Lord Jesus, we lift our voices and pray, come and heal our homes, fight our battles, and set us on the rock higher than us, don’t allow the enemies to destroy your inheritance.
Give us permanent victory in all…..Come lord and give us a new songs in our marriages, let your light of righteousness shine on us, illuminate, prevail on our situation and predicament, free us from demonic slavery and give us total freedom in all as we receive answers by faith to all our long awaited prayer request in Jesus name!
Lord, destroy every arrows of seduction, lustfulnes and materialism that’s has attacked and caged so many of your precious families.
Lord, heal our prayer life and set loose the revival in our marriages and homes as you baptize us with holy ghost and fire again and re- awaken us unto holiness as we receive great harvest of blessings in our lives in Jesus name.
Oh Lord, continue to fix our eyes on the Calvary for us to be fit daily for the rapture of the saint in Jesus name we pray! Amen. – Please SHARE! -Dr Oyedepo G.O

WORD-AFLAME LEADERSHIP COLLEGE MY EXPERIENCE

MY EXPERIENCE

By Gideon in Blog, Life Sharing on October 25, 2016

OUR addition must not change our commission, because the Lord is blessing us greatly, and now has finally answer our prayers, this must not change or alter our sacrificial love for Him. Knowing that the Lord will always expect more from us than what He has given us in other to bless us beyond our expectations! So your prayer should be for more assignment that will bring His heavy hands of blessings upon your life !
Also in every generation God always depend on someone that will carry His name and glory to the next generation.
This is a story of a sister working in a big firm as a senior manager, she was highly respected for her dedication and passion for her contribution to the development of the company. But all of a sudden, she has a problem with the management and she was thrown out of the company.
To her, this is the end of world, and also considering her commitment to the lord, she felt that God has disappointed her.
But after a while, her Pastor ministered to her and been suffered for almost two years in this hopeless condition and unable to get another job.
One day the same company that sacked her suddenly called her telephone line, and this is how she was miraculously restored with promotion and she became a Director.
This is amazing, you said! but not quite long after six months of this miracle, things begins to happen! she can no longer sustain her Christian life any more, she no longer have time for weekly bible study and prayer meetings, her lamp of faith start going dime, the pleasure and commitment of the world finally snuffed life out of her.
At the end she got backslide…..very sad, you said!
More often we jubilate and celebrate every answered prayers with miracles and victory in our life, but the question is this, how sincere are we to this divine provision of God in our life?……is God at fault for answering your prayers?
I hope you don’t want to disappoint Him too? Hmm…..its dangerous to do that… because, His blessing upon your life is for a purpose, will you wake up now to serve Him more for more release of His power, blessings and also because of your love for him!
Paul Apostle said, “But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ.
Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one things I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before.
I press towards the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus -Philip 3:7,13-14.
Will you be able to control the blessings of God in your life or the blessings will control you? Choose rightly…choose wisely….choose eternal life!
God bless you.-Dr Oyedepo G O.

WORD-AFLAME LEADERSHIP COLLEGE Attack On Christian Marriages!

Attack On Christian Marriages!

By Gideon in Blog, MARRIAGE on October 22, 2016

Dr. Gideon O Oyedepo’s exclusive Answer to a Question asked by a Sister on Christian Marriage Network.
“Rev, when we are Christians, why did Satan touches our happiness?”
The book of John 10:10 and John 8:44 presented to us an exclusive character, behavior, and mission of Satan in the life of both christian believers, and un-regenerated souls (unbelievers) even from the beginning of the world. Satan does not really have time to chase unbelievers because with “sin” in their life, they were already his own.
But for those that have been redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus, such automatically belongs to God(1 Peter 2:9-10) and you know from the garden of Eden he (Satan) has been destroying the work of God. The serious issue here is that “Marriage” is the primary target of Satan.
Adam and Eve’s marriage was ruined with deception of Satan, he terminated life out of the couple and handed them sorrow and eternal death.
Jesus the second Adam, the life giver unfolded the likely weakness of any believer and smartness of Satan in taken such advantage to completely destroy without notice, He said, ” But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way. Matt 13:25″
In the early Church, there were couples that God used in achieving the purpose of gospel like Priscilla and Aquila- the family, after their conversion continue with Paul to spread the gospel.
But we have the opposite in Acts 5:1, the full account of a couple that fell, they allowed Satan to destroyed their love for Christ that resulted to untimely death.
Paul Apostle in 2 Corinth 10:3-6 also spoke of day to day war against Satan and his agents that believers must NOT WALK IN THE FLESH and said, we can only overcome him when our OBEDIENCE are TOTAL.
He further urged the church to put on the whole armour of God and be strong to destroy the attack of Satan and his vices. Ephesians 6:10-18.
More so, Jesus has overcame for us on the cross of calvary and we can also daily claim our victory through our FAITH in Him.
God bless you!
